Have you been wondering if the MomMed pump lives up to the hype it has right now?
When my daughter was born I decided to bite the bullet and buy the MomMed S21 Hands Free Pump. There are so many pumps on the market now, so I just bought the one that had the best online reviews.
After watching tons of TikTok videos and looking at all of the reviews on Amazon, I decided to go with the MomMed S21 because of the claim that it’s quieter than most.
After using it for a month, here is my honest, thorough review of the MomMed S21.

The MomMed Breast Pump

MomMed is a brand of breast pumps and test strips that started in 2017. Their wearable breast pumps have been in high competition with MomCozy and other wearable breast pump brands since they’ve become popular on TikTok.
They offer 2 models of wearable breast pumps, the S18 and the newer S21 which has more modes and more levels. This review will focus on the MomMed S21 Double Wearable Breast Pump and how I’ve liked it so far.
My experience with the S21 Breast Pump by MomMed
I decided to purchase this pump after my daughter was born since I didn’t want to be tied to a cord and tubes with the breast pump I received from the hospital.
At first, I thought I wouldn’t need it, but after buying it and using it for a month my only regret is not buying it sooner.
It’s great for having your hands free to do other things like washing dishes or even carrying your newborn.
My first time using it, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it relieved my engorged breast.
Before getting into the review, I will say that my milk supply is just enough to feed my baby and I’m currently exclusively pumping to feed my newborn.
With that said, let’s get into my thoughts on the MomMed pump.
Unboxing the S21 Pump
Opening the box I was very surprised and satisfied with the quality of this pump and all of the goodies that came with it in the box.
Purchasing the pump on Amazon, I received all of the accessories that come with the version directly from their site.
At first sight, the material of the pump is a soft plastic while all of the other parts are a flexible silicon. The flange size is a default 27mm, but they provide inserts that shrink the flange to 24mm.
The pump also comes with spare parts, carrying bags, milk storage bags, instructions, charging cables, bra adjustment buckles, and cleaning brushes.
Pump Modes
The settings on the MomMed pump are easy to figure out. Hold down the power button to turn it on and it gives you the options for 3 different modes.
- Automatic – increases levels as time goes on

- Massage – short, low pumps, then one strong pump

- Expression – consant, repetitive suction.

I tried all options and the one that works best for me is expression mode between levels 3 and 5.
The LCD screen lights up so pumping at night is as easy as can be. I’ve found that the screen is a little too bright sometimes and I’ve had to cover it with my shirt or sweater to keep it from irritating my eyes at night.
The slim design(compared to other wearable bras) makes it perfect to discretely fit into my nursing bra(as a small-chested gal) without using the bra extenders.
Noise Level
One important specification I looked for when shopping for a wearable pump was the noise level.
I knew I’d be pumping in the middle of the night so I wanted one that wouldn’t disturb my husband or sleeping baby while I’m around them.
MomMed happily advertises that the noise level on the S21 wearable pump is 40 decibels. After a quick Google search, I found out that 40 decibels are as loud as a refrigerator hum or a quiet office.
In reality, this isn’t loud at all, but since the pumps are going at the same time very close to your ears, it might seem louder.
I asked my husband if the pumps are loud and he said it wasn’t any louder than the Spectra S2 pump that I currently use.
After a while, you get used to the rhythm and sound of the pump and I think it comforts my newborn at times.
MomMed S21 Dislikes
I love the convenience of the wearable breast pump, especially the convenience. However, there are a few things that I don’t like about the MomMed S21 Pump:
- I wish the pump would come with a tool to measure nipple size. Although I have used other pumps and know what works best for me, a tool would help narrow down whether the 27mm or 24mm that comes with the pump is my actual size.
- It is top-heavy. When it’s all put together the pump can stand up on its own, but when you add the pump mechanism, it makes it top heavy so I’ve had a couple of spills since it topples over.
- The battery doesn’t last long. Even though I can get a few pumps out of a full charge from these pumps, I wish it would last an entire 24 hours’ worth of pump sessions. I don’t have very long pump sessions and I can only get about 4 before the battery indicates it’s low.
- The LCD screen is bright. Even though it’s convenient for those late-night pump sessions, the LCD screen became bothersome when I was trying to stay in sleep mode during those overnight pump sessions.
- A little loud. The pump is just as quiet as a normal pump, but having it so close to my ears in complete silence during those overnight pumps, it felt like it was very loud.
- Lots of parts. In comparison to my Spectra S2 pump, this pump has a lot more parts to wash. Even though the pump comes with spare parts, I found myself washing all of the parts every time I pumped. The pump has a total of 5 parts to wash for each side including the resizing flange, which is way more than any other pump I’ve used.
Hands-free pump Pros and Cons
After using this pump for a month, I have a list of pros and cons when it comes to the MomMed Breast Pump:
Pros of the MomMed Pump
- Convenience: Any wearable breast pump provides the convenience of having your hands free. This makes it super easy, especially if you’re caring for a baby by yourself.
- Comfortable: I found the pump very comfortable while wearing it. I ended up using my nursing bras to hold the wearable pumps and didn’t even need the bra extenders. The soft silicone sits nicely against my breast even when I was fully engorged.
- Easy to use: The buttons are simple and easy to use. They are tactile so you can feel around for the buttons in the dark when you need to.
- Travel: I’ve packed these pumps on the go a couple of times. They’re easy to travel with and I’ve even poured milk into collector bags in a moving car. I’ll be taking these with me on long trips.
- Affordable: The price of this breast pump is nice compared to others on the market. It’s worth the money and since using it for a month, I feel like I’ve already gotten my money’s worth.
Cons of the MomMed Pump
- Noisy: It’s a little too loud for me, but it doesn’t seem to bother my baby or my husband so it might just be a personal preference.
- Heavy: The top-heavy design caused me to spill a couple of times until I learned that you can’t stand up the pump with the pump motor on or it will topple over.
- Too many parts: When you add an adjusted flange size, the parts to wash every time become too much, especially if you’re using both every time. It’d be best to buy spare parts so you don’t have to wash them so often.
MomMed S21 Pump Cost
The MomMed S21 Breast Pump sells on their website for $119.99 for 2. They are always having sales and coupons that the price to $109.99.
Their Amazon store has an even deeper discount that will get you $20 off.
MomMed Wearable Breast Pump Settings
The MomMed Breast Pump has 3 modes with 12 different suction strengths.
When you press the power button with one short press, you can change the mode. They are:
- Auto

- Massage

- Expression

The setting that worked best for me is Massage mode for 2-3 minutes at level 3 and Expression mode for 8-7 minutes at level 5. Repeating this cycle gave me the best results.
Auto mode will start at level one and increase levels as time goes on.
Massage mode will do a few short pulses and one long pulse at the level you choose which is supposed to mimic your baby’s natural suck.
Expressing mode will provide a constant suction at the level that you choose.
My suggestion is to try each mode and see what works best for you. You can play around with the settings to see what gives you the most output.
